MCM TIMELINE - VERSION 1.0

Note that in many cases time is an approximation - time is somewhat difficult to measure in the Multiverse thanks to many things not aging like they should. This is especially evident over long ranges, i.e. trying to keep time over the entire Union or Confederacy.

* Prior to 422 BU

There are many events involving the Custodians that occured before this time.

* 422 BU

The "beginning" of the Multiverse, or what is theorized to be such. For the first year or so there's little to it other than the Volatile Wastelands, which were in a similar shape to what's there now. It begins expanding at a fairly rapid rate - first, large swaths of contained areas such as gas giants are created, giving the place mass. Then, habitable areas are added. The Void does not exist yet. Several other, bizarre areas known as Wasteland Zones come into being directly adjacent to the Volatile Wastelands, having varying degrees of strangeness about their rules, their very being, and so forth.

* 420 BU

The first truly habitable conditions begin to appear. Unification begins in earnest. Civilizations, worlds and individuals are pulled in, more of the first two than the latter, though the latter does happen. Things are rather chaotic as people try to figure out just WTF is going on. The Custodians, as they won't be known to be about for another 433 years, are unknown, though some do speculate that someone or something is responsible for all this.

* 415 BU-315 BU

The "chaos" age. There is little to no Multiversal law; most Multiversal knowledge is completely unknown. It is during this time that most of what we currently take for granted (i.e. lack of aging, Aura, etc.) is actually learned. Civilizations are spread apart or clustered together. Random alliances and such form. Warp gates become more and more common, though the way to make artificial warp gates is not yet widespread.

* 315-200 BU

The "gathering" age. The Void is discovered. The first supernations begin to rise, and actually fall and fail. For the most part loose organizations are still the rule of the day. Multiversal customs and laws begin to take shape. Artificial warp gates begin to take hold.

* 200-180 BU

The "warp gate war". This is taken part in by virtually the entire Multiverse, though degrees vary from hardly at all to extremely. Those who have warp gate technology attempt to impose themselves on those who do not. This, unsurprisingly, manages to work. A number of non-warpgate states manage to band together in order to defend themselves, and eventually steal warp gate technology. However, they were still extremely behind. To save themselves, a desparate gamble was made on an expedition to the Volatile Wastelands. Only a few returned, and what actually transpired during the mission was considered classified by the governments of the day; however, once they were done, the warp gates were now limited in terms of their total range. Warp gates can no longer go simply from place to place; to get between places, the gates must be traversed in multiple legs of a journey. The (relatively) warp gateless and the warp gated civilizations alliances are split apart; the chunks nearest to the Volatile Wastelands are those that we'll cover most directly. The war results in a stalemate.

* 160 BU

The warp gateless alliance, closing the existing warp gate gap, has been trading with one another for several decades. This results in a loose, but growing much stronger, alliance of states; they are known as the Union, and act much as the United Nations, though they have slightly more teeth than the UN of RL. The warp gate alliance does not have the same closeness, but generally has a non-aggression "understanding". This is just as well as most empires under it have their own agendas. This alliance, of sorts, gains more members, most of whom want the other worlds to stay out of their business.

* 150 BU

After several decades of relative peace, a strange series of Unifications occur within the Volatile Wastelands. Many of these people know an uncanny amount of knowledge about other universes, and bring with them strange artifacts. It is as though these strange people come from worlds from before the other worlds existed, and eventually get the name of Founder.

* 110 BU

Several more decades pass, and the warp gateless alliance breaks apart into three separate factions which go to war. The Union is drawn into it, and at some point, the warp gateless alliance reconstitutes - with an intent to attack the UNION.

* 102 BU

The war, which has been a stalemate for many years, suddenly begins to take a drastic turn for the worse against the relatively peaceful Union. All seems lost, until the Volatile Wastelands suddenly decides to save the day. The Nightmares, as they're called, begin pouring forth. What are the Nightmares, you might ask? Think of them as a cross between Oblivion and the Undead; their true origin is not discovered for many years - namely, they're the 'survivors' of the event which spawned Oblivion, the previous Multiverse collapsing. They attack the Union and the warpgateless alliance alike. THe two join forces to stop them, effectively ending the war.

* 99 BU

It has become painfully clear that the Union is dreadfully incapable of defending itself as-is; the loose alliance simply won't do. In the process of rebuilding the Union, talks begin of forging a supernation like those of the old days, but trying to correct the mistakes that were made then.

One fragment of the warpgate alliance, as well as a small portion of the Union, decide they want no further part in what they see as likely new hostilities. Further, this groups' home worlds were basically destroyed. They soon establish Cirrus and Marine Cities, which essentially become city-states. The two fall under the same governmental structure but are largely independant, under the terms of what is now the infamous Cirrus-Marine Neutrality Pact.

* 80 BU

After a decade and a half, the Union is officially unified as a single super-nation. The scars of the past, however, have remained clear, along with many skirmishes with the warpgate alliance - this is not surprising, as the warpgate alliance and the Union often took in members which were opposed to one another. The first president and the first Council are brought together. The constitution of the Union includes the provision, remembering history, of doing 'whatever it takes' to keep their worlds safe - which means, both implicitly and explicitly, the total destruction of the warpgate alliance as military entities.

* 74 BU

The warpgate alliance has a war between the remaining fragments. One fragment gains dominance over the others. The Union looks to be preparing to stomp them all out of existance. The dominant one extends a peace treaty to the others, which they quickly accept.

* 70 BU

The peace treaty and alliance are ratified, and so is born the Confederacy. The first Council is formed, usually of the most powerful entities in each world, as well as other influential beings. Relatively ineffective election systems are put into place, and work is done (though likely not enough) to try to make nice PR.

* 50 BU

The Union-Confederate war begins, after many skirmishes since around 65 BU.

* 45 BU

Unification rates begin to skyrocket compared to what they were before.

* 40 BU

Skyrocketing Unification continuing, a group of Founders fancying themselves gods manage to start a series of cults. Said cults become extremely powerful in a short period of time.

* 32 BU

The "Cult Wars" are fought. The small but pervasive cults fight a gurrilla war against the much larger Union and Confederacy. Five or six rival cults are in existance. Of these, one can be considered 'peaceful', and another one can be considered alligned with Confederate interests.

* 28 BU

With the help of the 'peaceful' cult and the cult alligned with Confederate interests, the other cults are eventually extinguished. Founders are either worshipped by a small minority, or by a minority that's much bigger than the first, hated and sought to be destroyed. The alligned cults are brought under direct governmental protection, eventually ending up part of the government. It is known that Founders are especially good at ferreting out the Elite, and these are no exception; thus the Department of the Elite truly becomes far more powerful than before, as before it had mostly been guess-and-check.

* 18 BU

At this point it's become painfully clear that there are serious problems in terms of time and space tracking. Even civilizations used to such things in their native worlds are having problems keeping up. Many groups attempt to "standardize", but all fail to make much progress and are rarely accepted; even Union and Confederate member nations are at considerable odds with their peers as to how to accomplish this.

* 4 BU

A new time-keeping proposal is finally forged after years of research, involving much scientific debate and study. The Multiversal Time-Space Measurement System (MTSMS) is proposed. The Cirrus-Marine Pact decides upon taking this up and will implement it in four years' time.

* 3 BU

Neutrals generally adopt the MTSMS, and the Union and Confederacy eventually adopt it as well.

* 0 AU

The MTSMS goes into effect. The "Great Expansion" begins. The Volatile Wastes suddenly grow MUCH larger and Unification rates begin skyrocketing, soaring far above what was previously counted. Both the Union and Confederacy grow greatly, able to leverage their relative strength. Nevertheless, both treat their members relatively well. The initial timekeeping abreviation, AU, goes from After Unified system to simply After Unification as this was the beginning of so many current Unifications. MOST CHARACTERS SHOULD UNIFY AT OR AFTER THIS POINT.

* 2 AU

Major reorganizations of the Union and Confederate militaries. The first Field Marshals are put into place.

* 11-12 AU

The Battle of the Great Ocean. The largest battle since the cult wars, this is devastating to both sides. Both Field Marshals are slain.

* 13 AU

Several months of rebuilding pass and the war starts anew. New Field Marshals are selected.

* 14 AU

Present day.
